Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO) with the financial support of IFAD, IWMI through MetaMeta Research Netherlands implemented this project. The objectives of this collaboration were to;
Strengthened knowledge based networks established within the target Regions.
Human resource, local institution’s knowledge base strengthened and enriched with men and women staff of local institutions contributing to water use efficiency.
Capacity building, specially mainstreaming in farmer learning centers and in higher education institutions to contributing to the development of group of young male and female professionals.
The rationale of the project was to support flood-based farming systems to contribute to food and nutrition security and build resilience of local water users communities. The purpose was to develop Flood Based Farming Systems policies and programs to invest in rural people based on research, documentation of practical experiences indebted in long term capacity building and program development at various levels. The specific objective was to develop model and approaches focused on inclusive gender-balanced growth of climate change-stressed area supported which depend on predominantly on Flood Based Farming.
4 – Regional Network of Active Water Users Association strengthened through awareness and knowledge exchange visits, training and sharing practical notes on crop management.
3 – Farmer Training on new corps, crop water requirement, irrigation techniques and cultivation of Mungbean and Chickpeas at DI Khan, Hyderabad and Kachi Balochistan. The training was facilitated by local Universities and Agriculture Department of Balochistan.
1 – Communication and information group of farmers by making WhatsApp’s group and continue information sharing.
1 – Guide Book Published and disseminated among practitioners, experts and government line department and district irrigation heads in spate regions.
2 – New practical notes prepared on Guar and Mesquite Management.
Scholarship award to Tharparkar Sindh Farmer who invented botanical spray for crops.
Water distribution related issues was identified in Bhag and supported for its solution.
Research Study on Water Governance and Conflict Management focusing Sindh Province awarded to Agriculture University Tando Jam Sindh and is completed.
Applied Research study on Soil Moisture Management through “Alternate Strip Cropping is carried in Rajanpur District by Ghazi University DG Khan in association with MNSAU Multan.
1 – Applied Research Study awarded to Gomal University DI Khan on “Effect of Tillage on Enhancing Soil Fertility and Moisture Management in Flood Irrigated.
Students Intern one each from Agricultural University, MANSU Multan and Gomal University were financed and trained to complete their graduation thesis.
4 – Practicles notes were translated and published in Sindhi language and disseminated among Sindh Abadgar Board.
1 – Video on Jajube grafting was prepared and distributed among farmers in other regions.
7 – short documentaries were made on irrigation, drinking, cultivation techniques, shallow drilling and just water management were prepared and posted on (thewaterchannel.tv).
1 – Young Intern is directly trained in spate irrigation sector as future experts.
2 – Concepts papers are prepared on Kachi Tehsil Bhag are prepared to be transformed as future project. 1 is approved by the Government of Baluchistan direct grants.
