SPO Flood Response
SPO is currently overseeing Flood Emergency and early recovery response in 25 districts of four provinces including Sindh, Baluchistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Punjab. Through the partnership with UNICEF, UNFPA, OXFAM, Mercy Corps, International Rescue Committee (IRC), philanthropic contributions, and public donations by the people of Pakistan as well as our own funds, we have reached out to more than 151,669 flood-affected communities including women, children, elderly, differently-abled and other marginalized groups and communities. Through this support, we have been able to distribute food and non-food items, clean drinking water, shelter, and dignity kits. SPO has also established community outreach through health screening camps for flood-affected communities and Temporary Learning Centers (TLCs) for children. The organization is assisting the government and humanitarian actors in collecting first-hand information. Our regional teams are actively participating in district and provincial-level coordination meetings, relief efforts, and sharing of updates with other strategic stakeholders.
Health
SPO has established 10 mobile health camps for 4,640 patients in districts Jaffarabad and Sohbatpur in Baluchistan and 2 antenatal/postnatal care centers in Jaffarabad, established 8 health screening camps for 1,360 patients in districts Nowshera and Swat in KP, Kech and Jaffarabad in Baluchistan. SPO has also provided free medicines to the patients and established 2 diarrhea treatment centers in district Jaffarabad for 536 patients for immediate emergency medical/health relief to the flood-affected people. The organization has been conducting district-level referral mechanism workshops, providing psycho-social support, established and training community groups and conducting community awareness campaigns on health.
WASH
In district Jaffarabad of Balochistan, SPO has provided 14 hand-washing stations and 148 water trucking facilities for more than 4,630 beneficiaries, established 77 gender-segregated sanitation facility centers and pit latrines for 2,440 beneficiaries. Furthermore, SPO was engaged in establishment of water points and provided water testing facilities, de-watering of flood-affected areas, chlorination and repairs of damaged water sources, removal of debris from households and streets, providing water pipeline repairs, water tank repairs and portable hand washing stations with ventilated pit latrines. The organization has also provided WASH and NFI Kits to 3,000 beneficiaries in Mirpurkhas and Sanghar in Sindh, 17 hygiene and sanitation awareness campaigns for 1,300 beneficiaries in district Jaffarabad and Sohbatpur in Baluchistan, provided dignity kits, MHM and hygiene kits, post-delivery kits in D.G Khan, Rajanpur districts in Punjab, Sohbatpur and Jaffarabad, Nowshera and Charsadda districts in KP, and Shikarpur, Khairpur and Sanghar districts in Sindh to 2,378 flood-affected females. Non-food items were also distributed to 3,000 beneficiaries in Mirpurkhas and Sanghar, and 1,850 individuals with provision of cash grants to the flood-affected people of Sohbatpur, Mirpurkhas and Sanghar.
Food
SPO has contributed to the provision of food packages for 8,834 individuals and 1,263 families in districts Kohistan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Swat, D.I Khan in KP, Umerkot, Jacobabad, Sukkur in Sindh, Jaffarabad, Baluchistan. The organization has also supported 105 families including 741 individuals with cooked food in districts Umerkot, Jamshoro, Shikarpur, Khairpur, Sanghar in Sindh.
Shelter
SPO has been providing immediate relief to the flood-affected people with the provision of more than 800 tents and shelters for 6,945 individuals in Jacobabad, Jamshoro, Sukkur and Shikarpur in Sindh and district Jaffarabad in Baluchistan, created 6 women and child-friendly spaces in Mirpurkhas and Sanghar in Sindh and Sohbatpur in Baluchistan, and is further providing hundreds of shelter tents in its flood emergency response in Sindh and Baluchistan.
Education
SPO is reaching out to 10,500 children whose education is discontinued because of floods, especially focusing on more than 6,300 girls by providing access to safe learning opportunities through establishing 300 child friendly TLCs in Umerkot, Khairpur, Thatta, Qambar Shahdadkot, Jamshoro, Larkana, Sukkur and Shikarpur in Sindh. Enrolled students are provided with educational materials and school supplies, validation of partially/fully damaged schools data and including assessment of damages for rehabilitation purpose. Support has also been provided to revitalize school management committees (SMCs), capacity building and training of teachers and staff on GBV and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), classroom management, conducting health and hygiene sessions, improving the, capacity building of teachers, CFS approach and conducting DRR workshops. SPO is further conducting trainings for members of SMCs and project staff on the role and responsibilities of SMCs and social mobilization.
