Mumkin Alliance Punjab has organized an event in collaboration with Lahore College Women University with reference to sixteen days campaign on Violence against Women (VAW)in Lahore on Wednesday. Mumkin Alliance secretariat is currently being held by SPO Lahore Region. Students, media, academia and civil society activists participated in the event. To commemorate the day and raise voice against violence an interactive theater performance was organized, followed by speech notes from Retired Justice Nasira; Chairperson Punjab Commission on status of women FauziaViqar; Member Provincial Assembly Punjab Farzana Butt; LCWU Head of gender studies department Sara Shahid; SPO Regional Head Salman Abid and Mumkin Alliance Coordinator/Project Manager SPO Lahore Shazia Shaheen.
The speakers highlighted the importance of legislation on pro-women laws. They also emphasized the strengthening of the government/legal institutions and law enforcement agencies to take affirmative action to end Violence against Women. It was urged by the guest speakers that by collective actions and influencing mind-set of the community at large will only be sustainable when there will be rule of law and guaranteed access to justice for women. The speakers further affirmed that soon in Punjab women’s helpline will be functional where women can call for support and discuss their rights.
