The Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO) is implementing a one year project titled “Enhancing Capacities for Transparent and Accountable Local Governance ” from March 31st, , 2015 under Citizen’s Voice Project (CVP) grant -07 funded by USAID in District Malir, Thatta and Badin. The project envisioned to build the capacity of the Politicians and Community Based Organizations (CBOs) and local politicians in the field of Freedom of Information (FOI), District Budget Tracking and Advocacy for Practice.
Under this Project SPO Karachi Office has organized two trainings on the above theme on 17-19 September and 30 September-2nd October, 2015 at Karachi wherein the representatives of CBOs from Thatta, Badin and Malir-Karachi districts were invited.
The training participants were from diversified context of geography, gender and age groups. 53% female and 47% participated in said training event out of total 60 CBOs members, 20 from each district.
Advocacy action plans were prepared by each participating CBO as one of the major outcome of the trainings. The action plan will help the CBOs to do the advocacy on the identified and prioritized issues of their areas. Furthermore the prepared plans will help the CBOs to seek information from the relevant district level departments, to file the complaints at Ombudsman offices as well as to sensitize the relevant stakeholders on the freedom of information theme.
