SPO Dera Kee Kahani; SPO Kay Saathion Kee Zabani (SPO DI Khan Office’s Story; In the words of SPO’s Friends) Dated: 13th January, 2018 This event was conducted in SPO D.I. Khan regional office to commemorate completion of 20 years of SPO’s presence in DI Khan region and to celebrate SPO Board of Director’s visit to D.I. Khan. Honorable members of the SPO Board of Directors including Mr. Javed Jabbar, Mr. Syed Abid Rizvi, Dr. Tufail Muhammad, Ms. Zeenat Yaqoub Yousafzai, Ms. Arifa Mazhar, Dr. Taj Baloch, Ms. Parveen Akhtar and Mr. Saleem Malik visited D.I. Khan region and joined the celebrations which were based upon a presentation prepared by the SPO D.I. Khan region followed by speeches by various stakeholders and field visits to see the work done by SPO during past 20 years. Main event of the visit comprised of a video documentary presentation consisting of 11 segments; namely SPO’s work in Art for Peace, Inter-faith Harmony, Inter-sectarian Harmony, NGOs in D.I. Khan, Print and Electronic Media, Revival of Traditional Sports, District Administration, Musalihati (Arbitration) Committees, Political Parties, Betterment in Service Delivery, and Women Political Participation. This event was followed by a Shield Presentation Ceremony to Mr. Javed Jabbar, Chairperson, SPO BoD, Mr. Saleem Malik, C.E, SPO, and Mr. Shafi Ullah Khan, RH, SPO, D.I.Khan. The stakeholders were given a huge round of applause while presenting Certificates of Appreciation. Mr. Javed Jabbar and Mr. Saleem Malik addressed the ceremony and thanked the stakeholders for contributing towards the SPO’s objectives in a very productive manner.

Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO) has been advocating for the implementation of pro women laws promulgated by state to end the violence against women and girl’s with the technical and financial support of Trocaire and Australian Government. The Project has been implemented in Sindh Province.
Equitable Access to Education for Adolescent Girls in Sindh and Baluchistan Province
Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO), with the technical and financial support of Small Grant and Ambassdor’s Fund Program (SGAFP), Implemented a Project, “Equitable Access to Education for Adolescent Girls in Sindh and Baluchistan Province”. The Project was successful in: Enrolling 2000 out of schools girls in Government Schools Provided required missing facilities in 30 Govt. Schools Established 21 Alternate Learning Paths (ALPs) where 561 girls, who did not get education in their school age were enrolled to continue their education Trained 200 female teachers that have been teaching in 30 identified schools serving 90 village of 7 union councils Engaged 5400 parents through awareness raising sessions and, provided counseling to 5400 adolescent girls who were not attending schools

Lobbying meeting on Policy Gaps in Water Managment Ordinance 2002, Sindh
A meeting on Lobbying and Media Briefing with stakeholders organized by Strengthening participatory Organization – SPO, Hyderabad in collaboration with AWRE, supported by OXFAM, to highlight gaps in policy, inclusion of women and marginalized groups and in Water Management Ordinance 2002. On the occasion Mr Mustafa Baloch (Regional Head) SPO, Mr. Abdul Wahid Sangrasi (Sr. Prog. Specialist) SPO and other experts discussed about the ordinance, gaps and inclusion of women and marginalized groups in the ordinance. Further it was discussed that media will play its role to create awareness among people through various programs, documentaries and talk shows on Water Management.

Provincial Commission on Status of Women (PCSW) A delayed legal entity to support women in Sindh
Roundtable was participated by government and civil society representatives such as Women Development Department, Social Welfare Department, Health, Police, Ministry of Human Rights Government of Sindh, Members of Provincial Assembly Sindh, Media and Academia Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO), rights based civil society organization under the project tilled as “Policy Advocacy and Research to Strengthen Implementation of Pro-Women Legislation and GBV Response Services in Sindh” supported by Australian Government conducted roundtable discussion on 17th of August 2017, participated by civil society and government related stakeholders in local hotel Karachi. The roundtable aimed at steering up the process of establishment of the support structures based on pro women legislation of government of Sindh. The pro women structures such as “Provincial Commission on Status of Women”, under Sindh Commission on the Status of Women Act 2015, Provincial and District level “Monitoring Committees” under The Sindh Early Child Marriages Restraint Act 2014, and “Provincial and District level “Domestic Violence Commissions” under The Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection) Act 2013, were to be established soon after the enactment of the pro-women laws that yet await to be notified to minimize the sufferings of women in Sindh Province.
SPO enrolled 406 out of school adolescent girls in District Ketch and Gwadar
SPO conducted a counselling session out of school girls at Turbat/Gwadar, under USAID small grant project, Equitable Access to Education for Adolescent Girls in Sindh and Balochistan.
