The State of Gender Based Violence and Response Services in Sindh

Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO) organized a public event “State of Gender Based Violence Response Services in Sindh” under the Project “Policy Advocacy and Research to strengthen Implementation of pro women legislation and Gender Based Violence Response Services in Sindh. The event was organized in Karachi on 19th of April 2017”  with the support of Australian Government and Trocaire. The event was aimed to share the findings of situational analysis of Gender Based Violence Response Services available in Sindh for women survivors with representatives of key government departments and members of Provincial Steering Forum (PSF) including Women Development Department, Social Welfare Department, Health Department, Department of Planning and Development, Ministry of Human Rights and Police. The event was also organized to acquire feedback of all concerned departments who were amongst the participants of Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and participants of Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) thus their opinion could also be sought and verified on findings of analysis. Another underlying objective of the event was to take on board the relevant stakeholders and obtain their ownership of findings for their follow up action plans and future measures to improve the GBV response services in Sindh. Provincial Policy Strategies on Human Rights – A New Way Forward in Pakistan

Islamabad, March 16: Diplomats, government representatives and rights campaigners have called for concerted efforts, awareness and institutional mechanism at federal, provincial and grass root levels for protection and promotion of human rights enshrined in the Constitution as well as international treaties rectified by Pakistan. They made this plea at an event held here Thursday to celebrate the completion of provincial human rights policy strategies prepared by the Strengthening Participatory Organisation (SPO) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Human Rights and the provincial departments and supported by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) of the British government.

Multi Stakeholders’ Provincial Steering Forum (PSF) was launched on 7th of March 2017 in Karachi

Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO) launched a Provincial Steering Forum (PSF) under the Project “Policy Advocacy and Research to Strengthen the Implementation of Pro women Legislation and Gender Based Violence Response Services in Sindh” at Movenpick hotel Karachi on 07th of March 2017. This launching ceremony of Provincial Steering Forum (PSF) was participated by the key provincial government departments, including Women Development Department (WDD), Social Welfare Department, Health Department, Planning and Development Department, Ministry of Human Rights and Police Department as key members of PSF.  The forum also comprises on members of civil society and media (both electronic and print) to launch a rigorous campaign and constant movement for implementation of recently promulgated pro women laws in letter and spirit.  Ms. Ranna Ansar who is secretary general of Women Parliamentary Caucus- Sindh Assembly and Chairperson Standing Committee of Women Development Sindh Assembly also participated in the launching ceremony to support the provincial level forums in future to strengthen gender based response services in Sindh.

Strategic Partnership – Women and Marginalized Groups, Natural Resource Management and Peace-building: Unlocking the Potential Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO) in collaboration with the Association for Water Applied Education & Renewable Energy (AWARE), OXFAM International, held one day project Launch event on Strategic Partnership-Women and Marginalized Groups, Natural Resource Management and Peace-Building at Margalla Hotel, Islamabad. This event was joined by senior government officials, civil society members and other stakeholders from all over the country. Mr. Naseer Memon, Chief Executive, SPO welcomed all the participants on the behalf of the organization. He explained SPO’s work for the rights of marginalized segments of the society. He also gave a brief background about the connection and linkages between Water, Conflict and Women. Furthermore, he focused on the basic rights of marginalized groups particularly women, affected by structural discrimination and exclusive practices related to the water governance.

Project ‘Equitable Access to Education for Adolescent Girls, launched by SPO and supported by US AID in Turbat, Balochistan

The program commenced with the recitation of Holy Quran, and Project Coordinator, Mehrab Baloch, formally welcomed the participants on behalf of SPO, at the launching ceremony of project, Equitable Access to Education for Adolescent Girls in Balochistan. Mehrab Baloch, Project Coordinator, briefly introduced SPO goal, vision, mission and its role, and contribution for the development and welfare of community specifically in Turbat region. He said SPO strengthens and supports the community organizations and public interest institutions of Pakistan for the benefit of poor and disadvantaged sections of society for sustainable development through a participatory approach. He added SPO already successfully materialized and contributed in women educational sector through village education program in Balochistan.
