Civil Society Demands Amendments in Sindh Water Management Ordinance 2002, for Inclusion of Women and Marginalized Groups
Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO) organized Project Advisory Committee (PAC) Meeting on Policy Gaps and Recommendations with regards to Sindh Water Management Ordinance 2002 at a local hotel in Karachi today. The meeting discussed recommendations of a study to identify the policy gaps in water management, specifically in relation to the role of women and marginalized groups. The study was conducted by SPO and AWARE with support from Oxfam Pakistan. The findings of the study suggest that there is a dire need to amend the Sindh Water Management Ordinance 2002, to include women and marginalized groups at different levels of water management bodies.
The inclusion of women and marginalized groups in water governance both for agriculture and domestic use has multiple benefits while their role is neglected and denied in policy and practice. Demands were raised to ensure inclusion of women and marginalized groups affected by structural discrimination and exclusionary practices.
