The Sindh Commission on the Status of Women (SCSW)) was established on September 08, 2017 after rigorous efforts of Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO) with the support of Provincial Steering Forum (PSF), women rights activists and media persons. In this connection, an orientation meeting was organized in Karachi by SPO on November 16, 2017 on role and mandate of Sindh and to assess the needs to Strengthen Sindh Commission on the Status of Women (SCSW). It was the first meeting formally organized by any civil society organization to support the Commission in areas of fund raising and mutual collaboration.
Way Forward-SCSW:
Three years strategic plan would be developed
Listing and prioritizing of the GBV issues would be made
Mapping of the thematic areas of interventions at district level would be done
Five to seven gender friendly districts would be developed
Civil society organizations would be offered their role in strengthening institutional support of the SCSW
The matter of lack of the MLOs would be taken up with home department government of Sindh
The matter of separate desk in Police Stations for women Would be taken with Home Department
Transgender member would be opted by the chair to include it in the SCSW
Women development department would be consulted for appointment of women development officers and protection officers at district level in compliance of SCMRA and DV(pp)A 2013
MOU would be signed with SPO on its support to the establishment of SCSW
