SPO under its Faith in Action for Sustainable Climate Resilience Project established a Seed Bank in collaboration with Sindh Agriculture University Umerkot Campus to support women in establishing kitchen gardening to address food security and climate change issues.
For the first time in Umerkot, SPO and Sindh Agriculture University have joined hands to introduce this local seed bank that contains more than 41 varieties of OP and hybrid seeds. This is a unique model where women will receive and deposit seeds, and if a woman is receiving 1 kg of seeds from the bank, in return, she will deposit 2 kg of seeds in the bank. It will be a sustainable model where women will think about sustainability. The Inauguration Ceremony was held at Agriculture University Sub Campus Umarkot.
This seed bank is a new venture in which the maximum number of women from Umerkot’s backward and marginalized areas and its surroundings will consult directly from the experts of the Sindh Agriculture University Umerkot. The University team will provide volunteer facilities to women in growing KG models from wastewater of kitchens at their homes.
The kitchen Gardening Demo plot was also established for more understanding and learning about KG and its process of establishment. We would like to Thank Mr. Jan Muhammad Mari Sb, and Mr. Saleem Chaang for their efforts and for joining hands with SPO in establishing this innovative seed bank model. Special thanks to Saroop Chand Malhi sb, Adv Muhammad Bux Kumbhar sb, Tikam Das band others for your time during the inauguration.
