Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO) with the financial support of UNESCO-IHE Delft, The Netherlands implemented this project.
The objectives of this collaboration were to;
Strengthened farmer networks in Pakistan and prepare policy guidelines.
Implementation of two innovative and scalable action research solutions.
Process and incorporate spate irrigation in curricula of universities and agricultural colleges.
The project mainly highlighted the spate irrigation problems, practices, knowledge building, documentation and digitalizing the water rights records, development of knowledge & its dissemination, capacity building of local NGOs and providing innovative research based solutions and program development for new investments.
Four Regional Network of farmers and practitioner in District Kachi & Sibi Balochistan, Dera Ismail Khan Region in, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Abadgar Board of farmers from Dadu, Jamshoro in Sindh, Rajanpur and DG Khan in Punjab.
Fifteen Water Rights Record from DI Khan, DG Khan, Rajanpur, Sibi Balochistan were obtained, scanned and upload on website (www.spate-irrigation.org).
Descriptive and video report on drinking water conditions in Tharparkar District Command area development concept paper on Sanghar DG Khan.
Eight practical notes on crops, scope, storage of seeds, drinking water were prepared and shared with farmers and practitioner.
Six Water Management in Motion (set of CDs on various Topic was) prepared and distributed among regional water experts.
Four experts, one from VEER, ARID RESEARCH D.I.Khan, an academic from Barani Univesity Rawalpindi and one expert from Punjab P & D have participated in short course on spate-irrigation held at UNESCO-IHE, Delft Netherlands.
Twelve milk churners (under promoting small technologies) from Pakistan were introduced to the spate communities in Sudan.
1000-Project flyer, brochures and charts were prepared and distributed among farmers, practitioner, relevant government departments and higher educational institutions.
Five Planning Meetings with SPO Regional Center VEER in DI Khan, PARA DEVELOMENT Organization Taunsa and SRSP DD Khan.
One presentation on scope of spate in Pakistan was conducted for SDC, Irrigation Department KPK. Irrigation Department DG Khan, Irrigation Department Balochistan.
One capacity building training of NGOs/CSOs in Spate Irrigation development was conducted at Hyderabad Sindh and Balochistan Quetta. The program aimed to train 50 professional on regional spate issues and proposal writing.
One presentation on scope and potential of spate irrigation was conducted to the Academic Staff and Students in Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi, UET Texla, and University of Punjab Lahore, BUITMS University Quetta, Agriculture University Tando Jam and Engineering University Jamshoro Hyderabad Sindh.
Curriculum development for student’s studies in spate irrigation was discussed with Ghazi University DG Khan, Gomal University DI Khan and Barani Agriculture University Rawalpindi; the late has approved the course through syndicate and offered to the students as optional subject.
One meeting was conducted with NARC and PARC, PSRWR Islamabad for inclusion of spate in Water Research.
Practical Note on “Alternate Storage Concept” was prepared and published Practical Note on Value Chain Development of Medicinal Plants was prepared and published.
Book was written and published on “DRY SIDE OF INDUS” Exploring Spate Irrigation in Pakistan. The book was then disseminated among the practitioners, water and environment and with government line department and civil society experts. Scheme Development Manual was prepared for Engineers, planners and Mobilizers.
One module on echo-system of kachi arid ecology was prepared and published.
