SPO successfully implemented the Establishment of COVID-19 ICU-HDU Ward project in collaboration with Dawood Hercules Group (DHG) and private sector partners. The project was implemented from July 2020 to June 2021 at Nishtar Medical University & Hospital, Multan, with the aim of strengthening the hospital’s critical care capacity during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The objective of the project was to enhance emergency healthcare services by establishing a fully equipped Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU) to support the treatment of critically ill COVID-19 patients. SPO served as the managing organization, coordinating donor partnerships, implementation planning, procurement support, and overall operational oversight to ensure timely completion of the initiative.

Under this project, SPO established a 16-bed ICU-HDU facility, comprising 8 ICU ventilator beds and 8 HDU beds, significantly improving the hospital’s ability to provide life-saving critical care services. SPO also supported the sustainability of the facility by providing technical staffing and bio-technicians to maintain operational readiness and ensure the continuous functioning of the equipment. The project made a significant contribution to strengthening the healthcare response to the COVID-19 emergency in Southern Punjab.
