District Rajanpur is badly affected due to heavy floods in the riverine areas of Indus and flash floods from the Koh-e-Suleman.UC Jahanpur, UC Noorpur, Machiwala, and some areas of KotMithan are badly hit .The most vulnerable villages for flash floods includesHajipur, Hirand, ChakShaheed and Patti JumaArain etc.Hill torrents and flash floods come from Sulaiman Range at its west,whereas, Indus River at the East overflows in areas of UC Noorpur including Bruce Abad, Tong, MallaKhel and KachDhreg etc. This year, hundreds of houses and thousands acres of crops are damaged fully with a considerable population is displaced.
Damages expected:
The hill torrents and flood in the Indus have inundated 40,433 acres, damaged 33,798 acres of standing crops and dislocation of thousands of people.Now, hill torrents in Sulaiman Range and Indus River were recorded at 550,000 cusecs as a result of heavy rains, while there is a medium-level flood in the Indus. There is threat of more flood water due to heavy rains forecast onward.
Relief and Rescue:
Rescue 1122 and District Government are engagedin rescue and relief operations. They have also set-up relief camps at various locations. Some community organizations are also engaging in relief activities,especially they are closely monitoring the flood protection walls for early warning.
Immediate need: water, food , shelter, and livestock feed.
