Six-day Batch 1& 2 Training brief organized for Youth network members of Liyari, Korangi and Sultanabad on “Mobilization awareness raising and advocacy, Community leadership, Negotiation and Communication skills and Conflict resolution”
The Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO) is implementing a one-year project titled, “Enhancing Opportunities for Youth’s Livelihood and Employment in Garment Sector through social and community mobilization in Karachi Project” from 5th November 2015 to 5th November 2016, under UNDP’s Youth Employment Project funded by UNDP in District Korangi, Liyari Town and UC Sultanabad. The project envisioned to mobilize 3200 youth between the age of 18-29 with 50% ratio of girls and boys and engage them in garment sector related training and create jobs for them.
Under this project SPO Karachi team Ms. Raheema Panhwar, Program Specialist; Mr. Saleem Abbasi, Program Officer, SPO Karachi and Mr. Mitha Ram, Resource Person conducted two six day trainings for Youth network members of Liyari, Korangi and Sultanabad at Sarwan Hotel from 4th to 9th April in Karachi.
In two events of the training 05 participants including 2-3 boys and 02-03 girls from each Youth network participated. Total 51 participants including 26 girls and 25 boys from 10 Youth Networks were trained on themes of “Mobilization awareness raising and advocacy,Community leadership, negotiation and communication skills and conflict resolution” so that they can be able to mobilize youth of the area and play their active role for the promotion of peace and harmony in their respective areas.
Based on Training Need Assessment (TNA), the participants were targeted and prioritized for training event. The training participants were from diversified context of geography, gender and age groups.
The main objectives of the training were:
To enhance understanding of Youth Network members on basic concepts of social mobilization community leadership and advocacy
To develop skills of Youth network members on social mobilization skills, negation skills, communication skills and conflict resolution and develop advocacy campaign
To develop understanding of Youth Network members on ‘Youth Employment Project.’
Trainings were interactive and participatory, based on the multimedia presentations, brain storming exercise, group works, role plays and discussions. Local language (Urdu) and English were medium of communication and presentations. Comprehensive reference material on the training themes of community leadership negotiation and communication, mobilization awareness raising and advocacy and conflict resolution were distributed and handed over to the participants for further reading and understanding. Pre and post training evaluations were undertaken for each participant to identify the difference after training. Advocacy action plans were developed by two members of same political Party for further interventions and implementation of the aims and objectives of the training. Ten follow up actions plans were developed and signed by 50 participants from 10 targeted Youth Networks. Post training workshop evaluation was analyzed and comprehensive analytical and narrative report has been prepared.
