SPO in collaboration with the Government of Punjab’s Human Rights and Minority Affairs Department, held its first formation meeting of its Provincial Network on Culture and Diversity
SPO in collaboration with the Government of Punjab’s Human Rights and Minority Affairs Department, held its first formation meeting of its Provincial Network on Culture and Diversity. Members of the Provincial Network consists of members from SPO’s District CPGs Lahore and Faisalabad, civil society members, media, academia, members of the Pakistan Bar Association and others from the art and culture industry.
This meeting’s objective was to mobilize local CBOs, NGOs, media and academia to form a provincial network for the implementation of joint initiatives and events that share positive results and best practices of cultural integration, national unity and solidarity through cultural interventions at local universities.
SPO’ Regional Head Mr. Shah Nawaz Khan further briefed participants about the role and responsibilities of the network and explained to its members how they will identify, prioritize and provide sustainable solutions to issues that create barriers in the promotion of social and cultural integration at the district and provincial levels.
The Deputy Secretary of Minorities, Mr. Muhammad Yousef, briefly shared the Government of Punjab’s Human Rights Policy, its ongoing implementation and SPO’s awareness initiatives in support of the policy. The Deputy Secretary of Minorities also expressed his appreciation for SPO’s collaborative efforts to promote cultural and social cohesion and sited SPO’s “White in Flag” coffee table book as an example of a first book of its kind that not only shares information about religious minorities in Pakistan but also lists famous and respected personalities of Pakistan who hail from Pakistan’s religious minorities.
